A quick Demo !

The following will give you an idea of how easy it is to discover what is consuming your disk space :

1) Launch BytesBak and run the Wizard

2) Click Next and give your reference a name - we'll use "My C Drive"

3) Select your C: drive and click Add

4) Click Next

5) Make sure you tick the "Log the selected drives NOW !!" and click Next

6) Wait for the drive to be "logged"

7) Click Yes and the log will load into the log viewer

8) Click on the C: drive (on the left), then click on the "Disk space" column to sort by disc space

Guess what (shock horror !) - Windows is the biggest folder !!  But, should we delete it ?  Only if you have a dual boot with Linux !

By double clicking on each folder on the right hand side you can drill down through your largest folders and see what is taking the space.

You may notice that the Gtree folder is 4.14GB, but only shows as 2.47GB in the "Disk space" column - that's because BytesBak takes into account that Windows XP (and Windows NT and 2000) support file compression, and this is the actual space taken on the disk.

Once you have a log, you can :
  • Delete files
  • Delete folders
  • Print the contents of a folder
  • Search for files (file filter)
  • Find duplicate files and remove them
  • Email lists of files
  • Archive directory structures
  • Tag files and delete or archive them later
  • Copy and paste file directory information into Excel

Most importantly, once you have created a log you can compare against this at a later date.  This makes it a snap to find out what has grown or shrunk.  Find those folder that were accidentally moved in Windows Explorer in no time !
